Tagxedo

We have been learning how to use tagxedo to present ideas.

Our blood

We have been learning about how our blood circulates around our bodies and now we are learning about our blood.

Today we made our own blood to show the different things that make up our blood. We started off with some water and a bit of yellow food colouring to represent plasma. Then we added red blood cells (Cheerios cereal and red food colouring), white blood cells (white pompoms) and platelets (marshmallows).

Here is how our blood looked:

Barn Owls

We have been listening to The owl who was afraid of the dark, which is a story about a baby barn owl called Plop.

We have found an owl cam which is a camera set up in a nesting box in the UK.  The owl in this nesting box is sitting on 5 eggs and we are hoping we might see them hatch.  However, in the meantime, we have been watching her partner bring her mice and other animals to eat.
You can take a look here.

The Circus

We had a visit from the circus today.  We watched a show of circus tricks and then we got to learn how to do some tricks.  We had such a great time.

The dark is exciting

We have been listening to the story of The owl who was afraid of the dark and in maths we have been learning about geometry.

The owl who was afraid of the dark is a story about an owl called Plop who really doesn't like the dark at all.  He talks to different characters throughout the story to hear why they like the dark.  Dark is exciting was the first chapter and it was all about fireworks.

We have begun to create a piece of art that combines our story and geometry.  We are creating some buildings that look 3d.
We have painted a background night sky, added some tinfoil moons and painted stars on.  Now we are beginning to add our buildings and some fireworks.

Expositions - writing arguments

We are learning to write expositions.  We need to understand how our writing impacts the reader.

Our circulatory system

The Life Education Trust has been visiting this term and we are learning about our circulation system.
We have been finding out about the function of our heart, as well as the things our blood does.
Today we are making human body game boards for our circulation game.

We got our game from: http://www.ellenjmchenry.com/homeschool-freedownloads/lifesciences-games/circultationgame.php
