 MOUNT BRUCE TRIP

Rooms 8,9 and 10 went to Mount Bruce in Paihatua.  My parent was my mum Marise I was traveling with Daniels mum it was me,Daniel, Chisora, Katie and Breanna traveling in Daniels mums car. When we got there our guide was Rob.
We went to see some birds there was the Kakariki, the kaka and a riflemans bird house the Kokako the  and the Takahe. Then we went to see the Tuatara it hardly moved it looked at us then turned away.
We saw a baby gecko its was angry and trying to bite we saw its ears they were so tiny you couldn’t even see them the green gecko was very small and cute.

After that we went and saw the Kiwi, one was white and one was brown.  The brown one just walked around but the white one came really close and it was having a drink then it went into the second encloser. After that we went and had lunch

Then we went to see the eels THEY WERE HUGE the biggest one weighed 15kg we could feed it you would feed it dead mice or kiwi food then the trout came and ate most of the food.

Then we saw the kaka fly into trees and make loud noises then we went back home to Dannevirke

Breanna's Mt Bruce Recount

  MOUNT BRUCE by Breanna

It was 9:00 on Thursday morning,Me,Katie,Daniel,Jakob and Chisora were traveling in a car to go to Mount Bruce to see the magnificent birds and our beautiful endangered Kiwi.
Me and Katie were in the middle when we were on the way there. As we left Dannevirke Katie was complaining about Daniel kicking her seat. When we were at Paihiatua The boys were chanting Paihiatua,Paihiatua,Paihiatua. (it was very annoying) Then we passed The Tui Brewery and Chisora mentioned something about free lemonade.
When we got to Mount Bruce we were all sorted into three groups, group A,group B and group C. I was in group B with Daniel and Jasmine.

The first place we went to was the Kiwi house. We saw a white kiwi and a brown kiwi,The white kiwi was a girl and the brown one was a boy. The next place we went was theKiwi egg incubator, Sadly there was only one egg in there because it was only the START of breeding season.
Then we went to see the Gecko. The Gecko was green and his scales looked smooth. Did you Know that the N.Z Gecko had Living babies and not eggs that have to be hatched. It also had a blue mouth to try and scare of things that might eat them.
After that we went to see the birds,It was really cool to see that they were protected but still apart of there natural habitat. (the bush and trees) We saw a lot of cool birds,My favourite bird was the Kaka because it was fat and we got to see it up close.

After that we went to see the eels,They were creepy and they looked super slimy. Soon after we heard that we were going to feed them after lunch Katie said she does Not want to feed them because of what food they eat.

Soon after we went to eat lunch i saw Katie and Lizzy again,We talked about the kiwi house and the slimy eels.

After lunch we went back to the eels,Mrs Griffin chose me to feed them. Im not sure what they eat but Im sure that it wouldnt taste very good to humans.
Finally it was time to go home Me Daniel and Chisora were in the back seat because i beat Jakob there. A few Minutes later Chisora pulled out his BIG YELLOW PANTS , Daniel tried them on and he was being silly with them and before you knew it we had all tried on Chisoras BIG YELLOW PANTS. After that Daniel had another idea and that was for us to talk through the BIG YELLOW PANTS. After that Daniel thought he would try and put his hand through the BIG YELLOW PANTS ,Grab my nose and go HONK HONK! (it wast very fun). Soon after that Daniel Farted,We all yelled "Put the window down,Put the window down!" It was really gross. A few minutes after he did 2 more farts, "Me and Katie screamed because it was worse that the first one.

Finally we got home and the bell went so we left,It was very fun and i really enjoyed the car ride as well.

Mt Bruce trip

On the fifth of September, I went on a school trip to Mt Bruce.  We left at nine o’clock and I went with my mum, Jakob ,Marece ,Chisora, Breanna,Katie and me.  Me,Jakob and Chisora were sitting in the back harrasing  the girls.  When we came to Mangatonoka we saw the Tui brewery  and Chisora said “lets go get some free lemonade” and said  “what thats not a lemonade brand its a beer brand”
When we were coming to Paihiatua Chisora said “were in Paihiatua” then me and Jakob joined in sing Paihiatua {I wonder why but it was fun}.  When we arrived at Mt Bruce we had morning tea then got into our groups. The lady that led us around was called Laura.  We first looked at the Takahe. It is an endangered bird.
The next place we went to was the kiwi house.  We had to be extra quiet.   There was a Northern brown Kiwi and a white Kiwi. They had two enclosures and there was a hole in the wall so they could get from enclosure to enclosure.  In the kiwi house there was a Wellington green gecko.  The Wellington green gecko can wiggle its tail off.
Most of the northern brown kiwi are found on Little Barrier Island.  Kiwi from Mt Bruce were found from Little Barrier Island.  They think they have 30-50 kiwi at Puhaka.
Then we went to the aviarys. The Kahurangi can say its own name.  The kahurangi also spends most of the time in the ground.  Kaka  have lived in puhaka for forty years.  Kaka can laugh, shout and do other things.  Kaka’s hop they don’t walk.
The eels were huge and we got to feed them.  On the way back I sat in the back with Breanna and Chisora.  In Chisora’s bag were some big yellow pants and Chisora ripped them out and we started playing with them.  When we got back the bus hadn’t arrived and the bell went so mum said lets just go.

MOUNT BRUCE TRIP
Yesterday at 9:00 in the morning we went to Mount Bruce.
I went in Daniel’s car with Breanna, Chisora, Jakob and Daniel. As we were driving there we were “playing” I Spy. As soon as we got to Paihiatua the boys were singing really annoying voice, “Paihiatua!, Paihitua!,” :) Then Chisora wanted to go to the Tui Brewery and get free lemonade!!!
When we got there we had something to eat. Then we were put into groups, A,B and C. I was in group C with Piper-Rose’s mum.
The first amazing bird I saw was the Takahe. This native New Zealand bird looked a lot like a Pukeko and there are only 207 still left in NZ. I also saw the kaka. That bird was my favourite bird that I saw at Mount Bruce.  One flew right past my head!
Next we went into the bush. We got caught in a big shower of rain!:(
We saw a hihi bird which had a yellow head and a black and white body. They were kept in different cages because the male is aggressive. They also have a super-long tongue. They make a chirp chip sound.  We also saw the rifleman. This bird is the smallest NZ bird alive!!!
One of my favourite parts was seeing the white kiwi. It was so cute!!! The kiwi chicks that are born have a 10 percent chance of survival because the pests do a lot of the damage. :(
When we went to see a gecko a kaka touched my shoulder and I screamed because I thought that I was being attacked!!! The gecko was very interesting. His mouth was blue and he opens it which scares predators away. Geckos have live babies and the holes in each side of their face. Those are their ears!  They also don't eat anything bigger than the size of the size between their eyes and guess what, it's tail can drop off!!!
Then I went  home in the car. Breanna climbed into the back seat. Daniel gave her a fair warning about him farting, but she didn't listen. Somewhere in the country Daniel farted and it smelt horrendous!!! Me and breanna were literally screaming our heads off so we had to keep the window down cause he kept wanting to do another one!!!
When we got home Daniel slapped my FACE. And it hurt.:(
But I still had a pretty good time!!! :)

Volcanoes

We are learning all about volcanoes.  We have been researching information and writing reports.  Here is our volcano display - our reports are backed on black paper to represent the volcanic rocks exploding out in an eruption.
